The popular market in Kopanaki is an institution for the region

Kopanaki is well known for the bazzar that takes place in the central square of the village every Sunday, and attracts tourists from the all over the region. Kopanaki village is a quiet settlement of 1.000 residents during the week, but not in the Sunday; the place is full of colour, people, animals, goods, tourists, locals and more.

At the square of the village you will find colourful stalls laden with fruit, lush greens, salads, flowers, nuts, pickles, textiles, clothing, tools of almost all-purpose and finally animals (lamb, goats, rabbits, poultry).

Baking gournopoulas (pigs). started from Kopanaki (only on Sundays) for the visitors from far away, so they could have a hearty meal and the power to do the return trip.  Now every village in Messinia lying on road is selling (no matter the day) grilled gournopoula (pig).

The honorary dish of the area is certainly the known “gournopoula” that was sold by the kilo and freshly baked. The tradition started from here and has now spread throughout the region.
